Job Description Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Suite is responsible for delivering immediate and long-term nursing care to patients. This role adheres to the standards set by the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies, utilizing the nursing process effectively.

Essential Functions

• Accurately assess patients’ needs.
• Utilize multiple data sources to identify actual and potential health problems and functional status.
• Apply a Recovery Oriented Framework to acknowledge patient strengths.
• Perform point-of-care testing as required.
• Communicate findings effectively with the healthcare team.
• Document responses to interventions, demonstrating an understanding of patient responses to treatments.
• Identify patient behaviors that could lead to crises and employ verbal and non-verbal techniques for de-escalation.
• Plan and modify nursing interventions for assigned patients.
• Participate in the development of multidisciplinary treatment plans.
• Prioritize patient care needs effectively.
• Collaborate with patients and families to support recovery goals.
• Implement nursing care interventions competently.
• Establish therapeutic alliances with assigned patients.
• Administer medications safely, accurately, and timely using barcode medication verification (BMV) scanning.
• Review physician orders promptly.
• Promote interventions that support the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
• Lead patient groups as necessary.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care interventions accurately.
• Communicate patients’ clinical status effectively during clinical team rounds and shift changes.
• Utilize evidence-based nursing knowledge to inform practice decisions.
• Assume a leadership role in organizing and delivering patient care.
• Provide direction and supervision to Nursing Assistants.
• Delegate care interventions as appropriate.
• Lead during medical and psychiatric emergencies, ensuring effective response.
• Facilitate critical incident debriefings following emergency events.

Qualifications

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Experience in ophthalmology and ENT is required.
• Current nursing license must be verified.
