Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a progressive cardiac care unit. The nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a stepdown setting, ensuring their comfort and safety while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Job Details
- Unit Type: Stepdown
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Experience Required: 2 years in Stepdown in an acute care setting without exception
- Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS
- Shift Notes: Night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Must be flexible and work as needed on holidays and around holidays
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 44 beds, including 8 semi-private rooms
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1 to 5
- Common Diagnoses Capabilities:
- CABG, cardiovascular surgeries
- Thoracotomies, EVARS, AAA repairs
- Chest tubes, pacemaker insertions, and cardioversions
Responsibilities
The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for:
- Monitoring patients’ conditions, including vital signs and medical equipment
- Administering medications and intravenous (IV) therapies, including titrated drips
- Assisting with patient assessments and developing care plans
- Collaborating with healthcare team members to deliver patient-centered care
- Interpreting cardiac rhythms and reading strips
- Floating to ICU as necessary, primarily with stepdown patients
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Stepdown or related acute care setting
- Current ACLS, BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to float between ICU and stepdown units when needed

Additional Information
This position may involve working in a high-demand environment with an average patient census of 32-38, requiring flexibility in handling admissions and discharges. Orientation will include 3 shifts to ensure familiarization with unit protocols.
