Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Telemetry

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) specializing in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry to join our team. This role involves managing diverse patient populations with varying health conditions, including critical care situations. Nurses will be expected to leverage their clinical expertise and collaborate effectively in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical/Surgical or Telemetry setting.
• Ability to accept first-time travelers.
• Local candidates are accepted, with some rate differences.
• Proficient in the following skills:
  • Telemetry remote monitoring
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Colostomy and feeding tube care
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management
  • Blood Product Administration
  • Central line blood draw and management
  • PICC line management and starting IVs
  • Phlebotomy
  • Management of chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
  • Oral Suctioning and Oxygen management
  • Isolation precautions and wound care
• Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with MS/Telemetry, including telemetry on-unit monitoring.
• Skills in accessing ports and managing insulin therapy.
• Understanding of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) and surgical drains.
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage tracheostomy care.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records.

Job Details

• Target patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:5-6.
• Shifts: 12-hour day shifts; 36 or 48 hours accepted.
• Contract lengths generally ranging from 13 to 20 weeks.
• This position may require participation in crisis response teams during catastrophic events or disasters.
• Maximum allowed time off (RTO) is 7 days; floating to other units may be required.
• Weekend work requirement: 12-16 weekends per contract.
• Unit orientation lasts 24 hours, with additional hospital orientation during the first week.
• Scrubs: Navy and White.

• Dementia
• Diabetes
• COVID-19
• Pneumonia
• COPD
• Sepsis
• Encephalopathy
• GI Bleed
• Anemia
• Hip Fracture

Technology and Communication

Familiarity with the following systems is essential:

• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Documentation: Epic
• Communication: SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation)

Applicants must successfully pass EKG Testing prior to commencing work in this specialty.
