Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Job Summary

This position is for a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) on a fast-paced unit with a high volume of births. The ideal candidate should possess strong clinical skills and experience in managing obstetrical patients, particularly in environments averaging over 300 births per month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for obstetrical patients, including intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum care.
  • Perform sterile vaginal exams and competent immediate newborn care.
  • Circulate effectively in high-risk scenarios, cooperating with the operating room team for scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and other procedures.
  • Manage double labor assignments daily, maintaining care for multiple patients simultaneously.
  • Utilize electronic health record systems including PYXIS and EPIC for documentation and medication administration.
  • Participate in unit orientation and ongoing education as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing, with a preference for 3 years.
  • Must have experience in high-volume settings with more than 300 births monthly.
  • First-time travelers accepted, provided they have experience in a large, high-volume maternity care setting.
  • Current certifications: BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP.

Work Environment

The unit is known for its high acuity and fast-paced workflow. The average ratio is 2:1, with approximately 20 births and 30-40 admits every 24 hours across 20 rooms. Nurses may be required to float to special maternity care units as needed.

Schedule

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15).
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule.
  • Contract Length: Available for 13 to 26 weeks.

Scrubs

Scrubs will be provided in blue color.

Orientation

A comprehensive orientation of 24 hours will be provided to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and systems.
