Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview:

The Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) position encompasses providing exceptional care for patients in a surgical stepdown unit. This role focuses on monitoring patients’ telemetry readings and managing post-operative care following various surgical interventions.

Position Details:

• Shift Type: Nights and Every Other Weekend (EOW)
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Mandatory: Ability to read telemetry strips
• Free on-site parking available

Unit Description:

• Consists of two Med/Surgical units: a 15-bed unit and an 8-bed Surgical Stepdown unit.
• Floating within the facility is required.
• Patient ratios for RNs are 3-5 patients per nurse in the stepdown unit; 6-10 patients per PCA.

Patient Population:

The unit caters to patients recovering from a range of surgical procedures, including:

• General Surgery
• Gynecological Surgery (GYN)
• Vascular Surgery
• Thoracic Surgery
• Urological Surgery
• Oral Surgery
• Plastic Surgery
• Trauma Surgery

Essential Qualifications:

• Current Massachusetts RN License
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a single location and 2 years of travel experience preferred.

Required Skills:

• Telemetry monitoring competency (ability to read telemetry strips)
• Management skills for chest tubes, nasogastric tubes (NGT), epidurals, and capnography

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with arterial line management
• Knowledge of neo-synephrine management

Charting System:

Experience with EMR, specifically with EPIC, is a plus.
