Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

The Medical Laboratory Scientist plays a vital role in the collection and preparation of blood samples for laboratory testing, ensuring that accurate data is generated for patient care. The position requires a strong adherence to established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples.
• Follows defined processes for sample collection, including verifying patient information, labeling specimen vials, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Safely disposes of contaminated needles and biohazard waste according to applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, and billing information into appropriate information systems.
• Processes specimens following established guidelines.
• Organizes blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items are for first-time use.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control protocols and hazardous waste policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and directed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or Red Cross.
• Willingness to travel for potential assignments is preferred.
