Registered Nurse – Perioperative

Definition of Position

The Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing practice during intraoperative surgical experiences is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. This role involves acting as a patient advocate and directing and supervising any assigned personnel.

Essential Job Functions

  • Accept responsibility for directing, controlling, and planning activities.
  • Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Work independently while implementing the plan of care that includes:
    • Protecting patients from injuries caused by various sources.
    • Conducting accounting procedures to prevent unintended retained surgical items.
    • Ensuring procedures are performed on the correct site, side, and level.
    • Managing patient specimens according to organizational policies.
    • Communicating patient status to relevant parties throughout care.
    • Administering medications safely and accurately.
    • Maintaining patient wound and tissue perfusion at baseline levels.
    • Ensuring the stability of patients’ physiological systems and balances.
    • Performing interventions to prevent surgical site infections.
    • Protecting patients’ rights, dignity, and privacy.
    • Providing age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards.
    • Delivering consistent and comparable care across various settings.
  • Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as applicable.
  • Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective team relationships.
  • Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth by participating in relevant organizations.
  • Act as a patient advocate while maintaining privacy and confidentiality of health information.
  • Support the organization’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in required education for relevant programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Required: Associate of Science in Nursing.
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
    • Required: Current RN license in Oregon, BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification, TNCC.
    • Preferred: CNOR, completion of Peri-op 101, CRASE training (required if assignment exceeds six months).
  • Experience:
    • Required: None.
    • Preferred: Previous RN circulator experience, Peri-op 101 course, scrub experience.
  • Other Requirements:
