Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Job Shift: Day/Night Rotate

Unit Type: Respiratory Therapy

Shift Length: 12-hour shifts

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience.
• Experience in a Level 1 trauma center and ICU; ER experience is preferred.
• Experience working in a facility with more than 300 beds.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification via NBRC is preferred; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) will be considered.
• BLS (AHA) certification is required.
• ND state license or willingness to apply for it within 72 hours of acceptance of the offer.

Job Description

The scope of work for a Respiratory Therapist includes assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders or associated complications.

Job Duties and Procedures

• Perform respiratory therapy assessments and protocols.
• Conduct arterial punctures and blood gas analysis.
• Manage ventilator and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) therapy.
• Deliver medications and assist with airway clearance.
• Support intubations and bedside tracheostomy placements.
• Assist with bronchoscopy, tracheostomy changes, and decannulation.
• Conduct extubations and participate in emergency response teams.
• Join ICU rounds and facilitate patient intrahospital transport as needed.

Additional Information

Shifts are rotating, with the requirement to work every other weekend and holidays. Staff members may work with a charge therapist and collaborate with other respiratory therapists during each shift. Orientation includes lab training and preceptor-led shifts with experienced staff.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and proficient in managing quick changes in patient conditions. Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with the healthcare team.
