Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Cardiologist, the Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for educating patients about procedures, explaining exercise protocols, assessing appropriateness based on physical and medical information, discussing potential adverse effects, and managing the practical aspects of procedures.

Essential Functions:

• Promote the philosophy and mission of the organization.
• Demonstrate cognitive skills necessary to competently perform and supervise Exercise Tests.
• Understand appropriate indications for exercise testing and alternative pharmacological cardiovascular tests.
• Recognize contraindications, risks, and conduct risk assessments related to testing.
• Identify and manage complications arising from exercise testing.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiovascular and exercise physiology, including hemodynamic responses to exercise.
• Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond appropriately to serious or life-threatening conditions.
• Understand the effects of cardiac medications on exercise performance, hemodynamics, and ECG.
• Acknowledge how age and diseases impact hemodynamic and ECG responses to exercise testing.
• Apply knowledge of proper lead placement and skin preparation techniques.
• Recognize end points of exercise testing and determine indications for its termination.
• Interpret ECG changes resulting from various physiological conditions and interventions.
• Identify conditions leading to false-positive, indeterminate, or false-negative test results.
• Understand the concept of Metabolic Equivalent and estimate exercise intensity across different exercise modes.
• Perform additional related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Current Colorado RN license.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS and PALS certifications required.
• Experience in a Cath Lab is preferred.
• IV conscious sedation experience is preferred.

Education and Work Experience:

• Completion of a 12-lead ECG course.
• Demonstration of competency by completing at least 50 proctored Exercise Stress Tests/Nuclear Imaging Stress Tests under the guidance of Cardiologists.
• Participation in a minimum of 10 hours of physician-led didactic training.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
• Completion of all required competency assessments.
