MICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced MICU Registered Nurse to join our intensive care unit team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical and surgical patient care with the ability to handle high-acuity cases effectively.

Unit Description

The MICU is a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit that provides comprehensive care for a diverse range of adult patients, including those with conditions such as substance abuse/overdose, severe psychiatric issues, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock. Our unit is staffed by attending physicians and residents available 24 hours a day to support our nursing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in the MICU.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips to manage patient health effectively.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Float to Medical/Surgical units as needed, managing up to 4 or 5 patients.
• Participate in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient health status.

Qualifications

• Must possess an active Massachusetts RN license.
• CPR certification (AHA BLS & ACLS) is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is mandatory.
• Telemetry competency is required.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, with flexibility in working day and night rotations.
• Must have experience working in a single location for 2+ years.

Additional Information

• Free on-site parking is available.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity patients; 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Medical/Surgical areas.
• Experience with the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system is preferred.
