ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The ICU Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in a Level III Trauma Center Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This role involves working with a diverse patient population suffering from severe medical conditions and requires strong critical thinking and assessment skills.

Unit Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) comprises 20 beds dedicated to the care of adult patients with various critical conditions, including but not limited to:

• Substance Abuse/Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleed
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Attending physicians and residents are available in the ICU 24 hours a day to provide additional support.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips.
• Perform assessments and establish care plans based on patient needs.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care.
• Floating to medical/surgical units as required, managing up to 4 or 5 patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
• Telemetry competency is required.
• Active RN license in Massachusetts.
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Experience in managing high-acuity patients, maintaining ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 in ICU and up to 1:5 when floated to Med/Surg areas.

Work Schedule

This position requires availability for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights, with every other weekend (EOW) commitment. Day rotators may be scheduled between 7a-7p, 11a-11p, or night shifts (7p-7a), which do not rotate.
