Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in the Intermediate Care Unit. This position demands strong experience in a fast-paced environment, similar to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Candidates must have expertise in managing complex cases and a variety of medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients requiring intermediate care, including post-rapid response team patients.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and administer vasoactive drips.
• Perform routine and specialized procedures as necessary, including arterial line placement and care, central and peripheral line management, and blood product administration.
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams effectively and follow IV insulin protocols.
• Administer and monitor high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy care.
• Participate in the management of patients with respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, and post-operative complications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a similar unit (PCU, DOU, IMC, Stepdown).
• First-time travelers are welcome; local candidates accepted.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH, with experience in IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation.
• Proficient in using bedside telemetry monitors and recognizing/treating dysrhythmias.

Shift Details

• Night shifts, 4 days per week (12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15).
• Target patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:3-4.
• Floating to sister units may be required as needed.
• Every other weekend commitment is expected.

Unit Information

This unit functions effectively with a capacity of 20 beds, primarily dealing with complex cases such as GI bleeds, post-operative patients, and patients with neurological and orthopedic complications. Equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup to enhance patient safety.

Scrubs

Required scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination of both.

Additional Notes

• Hospital orientation will occur in the first week; attendance is mandatory for training sessions.
• Successful completion of EKG testing is required prior to starting in this specialty.
