Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in a progressive care unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will have experience with a diverse patient population and be equipped to handle a variety of clinical situations.

Position Details

• Target Ratios: 1:4-5 (Mixed acuity unit with PCU and MS/Tele patients; may increase to 1:6 in extreme situations)
• Shift: 12-Hour Nights (18:45 – 07:15)
• Contract Length: 13-26 weeks
• Required Time Off (RTO): 7 days maximum for AYA auto offer
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Float Requirement: Required to float to similar units

Patient Population

This position will involve working with patients suffering from conditions such as:

• COPD
• Pneumonia
• Respiratory distress
• COVID-19
• Influenza
• Pulmonary embolisms (PEs)

Please note that the patient population currently includes care for COVID-19 patients, including those who have tested positive.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
• Traveler Experience: Accepted (1st-time travelers welcome)
• Skills: IV start, Vents, Telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: NIHSS

Unit Information

The unit has a total capacity of 48 beds with a high acuity level. The staff includes:

• Admission/Discharge Nurse
• Assistant Nurse Manager
• Vascular Access Team
• Rapid Response Team (RRT)
• Code Team
• Behavioral Health Team

Nurses on the unit may care for ventilator and chronic tracheostomy patients; however, no nurse will manage more than one vent patient at a time. Our unit also emphasizes teamwork, with a nurse-to-CNA ratio of 9-10:1.

• Drips: Dopamine, Cardizem, Heparin
• Ventilators, trachs, CPAPs, and BiPAPs

Unit Systems

• Pyxis
• EPIC
• SBAR

Orientation

An orientation period of 24 hours will be provided for new staff.

Scrubs: Not provided; please wear white or navy blue scrubs.

Additional Information

An EKG test must be passed prior to the start of this specialty position.
