Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for delivering appropriate respiratory care based on physician orders and clinical conditions. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of respiratory therapy practices including medical gas and humidity therapy, airway management, blood gas analysis, and mechanical ventilation (both invasive and non-invasive).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide essential respiratory care services to non-critical patients and assist advanced practitioners with patients requiring advanced ventilation support.
• Manage time effectively to complete patient workload according to prescribed schedules.
• Document patient assessments and therapy details accurately in patient and departmental records.
• Conduct initial pulmonary evaluations and assessments.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences for enhanced patient management.
• Ensure proper use and familiarity with medical supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Must be a National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• State licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Arizona, in good standing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of two years of experience in both adult and pediatric respiratory care preferred.
• Experience in educating patients with chronic lung conditions is advantageous.

Preferences

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Shift Information

This position requires working three shifts per week, including weekends, with interaction and collaboration among a team of 3-4 additional respiratory therapists.

Physical Requirements

The role requires regular movement and transport of patients via wheelchair or gurney, with a significant amount of time spent standing, bending, and reaching. A portion of the time will be dedicated to charting and reviewing records.

Training and Orientation

New hires will undergo orientation including training on Pyxis, Meditech, and relevant hospital units, with a focus on general and critical care aspects of respiratory care.
