Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Overview

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical Telemetry to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to diverse patient populations on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care for individuals with various diagnoses, including diabetes, COPD, CHF, and post-operative surgical recovery.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
  • Manage care for patients with bowel obstructions, colostomy/ileostomy needs, and feeding tubes.
  • Provide pre/post-hemodialysis management and blood product administration.
  • Execute central line and peripheral line care, performing phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including insulin and heparin protocols.
  • Handle chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) as required.
  • Implement and maintain infection control measures, including PPE and isolation precautions.
  • Conduct wound care, including use of wound vacs as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with a focus on Med/Surg or Telemetry.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required.
  • Additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and telemetry monitoring preferred.
  • Prior experience in charge roles is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation systems is a plus.

Work Schedule

This position requires night shifts of 4×12 hours (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), with accepted contracts ranging from 13 to 26 weeks. Staff are expected to work every other weekend, and there is a requirement to float to other units if necessary. Please be aware that staff may participate in storm and hurricane teams, and may be needed during mass casualty events.

Additional Information

A 24-hour unit orientation will be provided upon hire. Candidates must demonstrate competency by passing EKG testing prior to commencement of duties. Navy blue or white scrubs are required for this role.
