Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This role requires expertise in the management of critical situations and the delivery of emergency medical services.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough assessments and interpret patient information to determine the care needed.
• Manage the care of patients presenting with various emergencies, including trauma, medical, and surgical cases.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
• Communicate effectively with other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient interactions and care provided using electronic health records (EPIC charting).
• Provide family support and education regarding treatment plans and procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state nursing license.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification is preferred.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Experience Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in an Emergency Room setting, particularly within a Level I trauma center.
• Experience in the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Ability to administer continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation.
• Triage experience is preferred.

Work Schedule

• Night shift, 4×12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:30).
• Must be available to work 3 weekends (Friday to Sunday) per 4-week schedule.
• Floating to Pediatrics may be required.

Additional Information

This role operates in a demanding environment with a patient-to-nurse ratio typically ranging from 1:5 to 6; this may rise to 8 during high patient volume periods or holidays. Candidates should be prepared to meet the challenges of a busy Emergency Department.
