Physical Therapist Assistant

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation staff, providing essential physical therapy services under the supervision of a registered Physical Therapist (RPT). This position is in accordance with agency policies and state regulations, and focuses on enhancing the quality of life for patients through personalized rehabilitation plans.

Responsibilities

• Deliver treatment as prescribed by the physician, following an initial evaluation of the patient’s physical therapy and rehabilitation needs conducted by the RPT.
• Implement care plans designed to relieve pain, restore function, and maintain optimal performance using a variety of physical means such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light, and electricity.
• Guide patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait training, and activities of daily living, including transfer activities and prosthetic training.
• Utilize equipment like ultra-violet and infrared lamps, low voltage generators, diathermy, and ultrasonic machines.
• Monitor and document patients’ responses to treatment and any changes in their condition, communicating relevant information to the RPT.
• Educate patients and caregivers on self-care techniques and relevant activities for ongoing care.
• Coordinate with health agencies to ensure access to necessary equipment for patients.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical notes and documentation in accordance with agency standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Must be a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Vermont and New Hampshire or possess a compact license.
• A graduate of an accredited program for Physical Therapy Assistants.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of experience as a PTA in a home health care setting is preferred.

Work Schedule

This position typically operates on a day shift schedule.
