Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The medical oncology unit is dedicated to the care of patients with cancer diagnoses, medical step-down patients, and general medical overflow. This position requires a strong understanding of the pathophysiology of cancer and the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients within this unit.

Responsibilities

• Patient Assessment: Regularly evaluates the needs of patients and provides skilled nursing services in accordance with the physician’s authorized plan of care and accepted nursing standards (30%).
• Direct Patient Care: Delivers direct patient care, which includes nursing assessment, medication administration, treatments, assisting with transfers, responding to call lights and alarms, and more (30%).
• Treatment Evaluation: Assesses the effectiveness of treatment plans and patient conditions, making collaborative suggestions to update and improve care (20%).
• Order Processing: Accurately processes physician/provider orders and performs necessary care in a timely manner (10%).
• Medication Management: Ensures follow-up on medication changes and clarifies orders as required (10%).

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Med Surg experience.
• Experience in Oncology is required.
• Comfortable taking step-down patients.
• Prior travel work history is highly preferred.
• Experience with Epic EMR is highly preferred.
• Active Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association.

Additional Information

This position guarantees 36 hours per week with a requirement to work every other weekend. There are no on-call obligations.
