Clinical Nurse
A Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates developmental levels and factors affecting patients’ ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance for revisions of the plan of care as needed.
- Engages with the interdisciplinary team for patient care evaluation.
- Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans.
- Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
- Consults appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Develops goals for professional growth or to address limitations with assistance.
- Achieves goals within identified time frames, renegotiating with supervisors as necessary.
- Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
- Provides feedback to coworkers and maintains awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment for all.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
- Addresses physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs.
- Synthesizes assessment data prior to communication with others.
- Anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Develops relationships with families to empower them as advocates for their needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Employs a variety of communication methods to convey planning information.
- Handles cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues.
- Research:
- Reads relevant journals to identify applicable studies or articles for practice enhancement.
- Presents ideas and questions for group assessment among staff.
Required Skills & Experience
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
- Able to circulate for C-sections.
- Able to triage for OB.
Required Education
- Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
Preferred Education
- BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
