Registered Nurse (RN)

About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate should have a passion for maternal and child health, and a strong background in labor and delivery, antepartum, and postpartum care. This role includes rotating weekends and offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that includes a Level III Trauma Center.

Unit Information

• Unit includes: 9 LDR, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU, 4 bed Pediatrics, 20 bed Mother/Baby unit, 18 bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction, and 3 OB ED Beds (20 weeks and above).
• The START unit provides inpatient voluntary addiction medicine treatment for pregnant women.

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

• Level II Perinatal Center serving patients 32 weeks and above.
• Common conditions include hypertension, magnesium administration, and medication management for substance abuse.
• Routine cases involve low-risk patients requiring intermittent monitoring, epidurals, fetal monitoring, and IV management.
• Approximately 175-200 deliveries per month.

Patient Ratios

• 1:1 for active labor.
• 1:2 for non-active laboring patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant nursing field.
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, fetal monitoring (AWHONN or Relia’s module).

Required Skills

• Strong experience in Labor & Delivery, including cervical exams, antepartum and labor management, amnio infusion, and fetal monitoring.
• Postpartum care knowledge for mothers and stable babies for the next 24 hours, including basic breastfeeding support.
• Comfort with couplet care once mother and baby are stable.
• Familiarity with HUGS Security system and Pyxis medication dispensing.

Support Within the Department

• No CNAs on the unit; surgery techs available Monday to Friday.
• Phlebotomy and respiratory therapy available 24/7 for high-risk scenarios.
• Continuous hospitalist and OBGYN laborist support, as well as a midwife and family practice group.

Technology and Equipment

• EMR: EPIC Stork, GE Centricity.
• IV pumps: Alaris.
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis.

Orientation and Training

• Includes two shifts on the unit: one focused on patients likely to deliver and another for C-sections and triage.
• Completion of annual core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA), a medication exam, and unit competency exam required before arrival.

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: Every other.
• Holiday expectations: One major holiday and one minor holiday per year.
• Requests for time off to be approved by management.
• Shifts: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.
• Schedule is made in 3-week increments.
