Labor and Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse (RN)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills in labor and delivery, as well as experience in postpartum care and couplet care. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team while ensuring the safety and comfort of mothers and babies throughout the perinatal experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients during labor and delivery, adhering to AWHONN and NANN guidelines.
• Perform cervical examinations, administer medications, and manage fetal monitoring.
• Deliver antepartum and postpartum care to mothers and infants, ensuring smooth transitions to the Mother/Baby unit.
• Manage IV placements, Pitocin administration, and perform amnio infusions as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with the OB group, midwives, and hospitalist to ensure quality patient care.
• Monitor and assess high-risk deliveries with the support of respiratory therapists and NICU attending staff.
• Maintain compliance with core competencies and participate in ongoing education and training.

Patient Population

The unit caters to a diverse patient demographic, focusing on:

• Level II Perinatal patients aged 32 weeks and above.
• Patients requiring management of hypertension, magnesium administration, and substance abuse care.
• Antepartum care with a focus on continued fetal monitoring and stabilization.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 1 year of relevant Labor and Delivery nursing experience is required.
• Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring (AWHONN or Relia’s module).
• Experience in scrubbing is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong skills in couplet care, breastfeeding support, and transition management for postpartum patients.

Unit Support and Resources

• Access to a multidisciplinary team including hospitalists, OB group, and midwives available 24/7.
• Dedicated respiratory therapy support for high-risk deliveries.
• Available phlebotomy services and telemetry monitoring.

Work Schedule

• Scheduled to work rotating weekends every other weekend.
• Two shifts per day: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.
• Advance approval required for time off through the department manager.
• Approximately 175-200 deliveries each month in the unit, ensuring a dynamic work environment.
