Unit Overview
The 6 North unit is a 12-bed intermediate care unit focused on critical care and neuroscience principles. It provides specialized care for patients transitioning from the Neuro ICU. Common patient cases include:
- Neuro trauma patients
- Patients with subarachnoid, intraventricular, or intracerebral hemorrhages
- ENT patients undergoing tumor resection and flap reconstruction
- Post-operative spine patients
- A variety of other neurological conditions
The patient-to-nurse ratio on this unit is 1:3.
Job Details
- Shift: Night 4×12-Hour (19:00 – 07:00)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Work Schedule: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and holiday; must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
- Time Off: Can approve 40 hours for time off
Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Must adhere to float policy
- Epic experience required
- Eligible for submission with Virginia nursing license pending
