ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary: The ICU Registered Nurse will play a critical role in a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) that provides care for adult patients with a variety of complex medical conditions. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and collaboration with healthcare teams, including attendings and residents, who are present in the ICU 24 hours a day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced ICU environment.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry readings and patient vitals.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Float to Med/Surg units as needed, managing up to 4 or 5 patients.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
- Proven ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Active Massachusetts RN license required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Ability to work rotating shifts as needed, with night shifts being fixed.
Patient Population:
The ICU serves a diverse adult patient population experiencing conditions such as Substance Abuse/Overdose, severe Psychiatric conditions, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Sepsis, GI bleed, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Renal Failure, and Cardiogenic Shock.
Additional Information:
- Telemetry competency is required.
- The nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity cases and 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Medical/Surgical areas.
- This position may require on-site parking availability.
