Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Description

This position is within a 65-bed Emergency Department that features a pod-based design, including a separate pediatric pod and an Acute Mental Health area.

Experience Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of emergency nursing experience.

• General Emergency Department nursing skills, including:
• Patient assessment
• Documentation
• IV access and phlebotomy
• Electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation
• Cardiac monitoring
• Point-of-care testing
• Splinting
• Critical thinking
• Patient education

Patient Population

The Emergency Department serves a diverse patient population, accommodating all age groups.

Work Environment

The department manages a daily census of approximately 230 visits and includes a clinician-to-patient ratio of 1:4.

Technical Requirements

• Experience with EPIC – ASAP electronic medical record (EMR) system

Floating Requirements

Registered Nurses may be required to float to the Emergency Department Observation wing (16 beds) and the Acute Mental Health Unit as needed.

Shift and Rotation Details

This role requires rotating shifts, including day shifts (7a-7p, 11a-11p) when requested, though night positions typically do not rotate. The frequency of rotation is low.

Certifications Required

• AHA Certified Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred Certifications

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
