Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Description

The Emergency Department is a 65-bed facility featuring pod-based structures, including a separate pediatric pod and an Acute Mental Health area.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients.
• Maintain thorough documentation of patient care.
• Perform intravenous (IV) therapy and phlebotomy.
• Administer EKGs and monitor cardiac activity.
• Conduct point of care testing and implement splinting techniques.
• Utilize critical thinking skills in patient evaluations and care.
• Provide patient education on health management and safety.

Patient Population

This position serves a diverse patient population, with an average census of approximately 230 visits per day.

Staffing and Shift Requirements

The clinician-to-patient ratio is set at 1:4. This role may require floating to the ED Observation wing (16 beds) and Acute Mental Health Unit as needed. Candidates should be prepared for rotating shifts that may include day shifts, with a low rotation frequency. The night position will not rotate.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of Emergency Nursing experience is required.
• General emergency department nursing skills, including assessment, documentation, IV, phlebotomy, and EKG.
• Active certifications required:
  • AHA Certified BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
• NRP and TNCC certifications are strongly preferred.

Electronic Medical Record System

Charting is performed using the EPIC – ASAP system.
