Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by collecting and preparing blood samples for laboratory testing, assisting medical technologists and pathologists in conducting laboratory tests, and ensuring that laboratory equipment and records are maintained according to established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.

Responsibilities:

• Utilize skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples.
• Follow defined procedures for obtaining samples, including verifying patient information, labeling specimen vials, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Dispose of contaminated needles and biohazard materials in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the appropriate laboratory information system.
• Process specimens according to established guidelines.
• Organize blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items are used once.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control, hazardous waste, and other relevant protocols.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
• Current ASCP certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or Red Cross.
• Preferred: Willingness to travel as needed.
