Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse to provide exceptional care in a comprehensive stroke center environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong neuro critical care experience and be comfortable working with a diverse patient population, including those diagnosed with various neurological conditions.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, including strong management of stroke patients.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH.
• Experience with ventilated patients, ICP monitoring, and management of dysrhythmias.
• Proficiency in blood product administration and complex nursing procedures such as central line management and external ventricular drains (EVD).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with arterial line management.

Work Schedule

Night shifts (12 hours) from 18:45 to 07:15, with a commitment of 36 hours per week. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.

Nursing Ratios

Patient-to-nurse ratios typically are 2:1, with flexibility up to 3:1 during high census periods.

Patient Population

The unit focuses on comprehensive stroke care with a patient mix that includes:

• Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
• Subdural hematomas (SDH)
• Craniotomies
• Carotid stenting and endarterectomies
• Aneurysm coiling/clipping
• Seizures and myasthenia gravis management

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Continuous IV sedation and management of lumbar drains
• Utilization of specialized equipment including EVDs, LDs, Camino monitors, and Arctic Sun.

Additional Information

Orientation lasting 24 hours is required upon hire. The unit thrives on a collaborative team approach and expects nurses to be adaptable to fluctuating patient needs.

Scrubs

Navy blue and white scrubs are required.
