Observation Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Description

This position is for an Emergency Department (ED) Observation setting that features 16 new observation beds designed for patient holds. The role involves providing care to adult patients while ensuring a high standard of clinical practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.
• Administer IV therapy, perform phlebotomy, and conduct point-of-care testing as required.
• Monitor cardiac activity by reading and interpreting EKGs and tele strips.
• Provide patient education and discharge instructions to promote optimal health outcomes.
• Manage splinting and basic emergency medical interventions when necessary.
• Exercise critical thinking to address patient needs and coordinate care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an emergency department or equivalent setting.
• At least 2 years of experience as a traveler.
• Experience with Epic, Asap, and Clin doc electronic medical record systems.
• Ability to maintain a patient-to-clinician ratio of 4:1 or 5:1, depending on unit needs.
• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) License.

Certifications Required

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Additional Information

• Rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, are mandatory.
• Floating to other areas may be required based on unit needs.
