ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

The ICU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive care to critically ill adult patients in a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The nurse will manage patients with various severe conditions while ensuring safety and quality of care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients to identify changes in their condition.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals and participate in interdisciplinary rounds.
• Record and document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) using EPIC.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding care plans and procedures.
• Float to medical/surgical units as needed, caring for up to 4 or 5 patients.

Qualifications

• Active Massachusetts RN License.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
• Strong telemetry skills with the ability to read and interpret EKGs.
• Experience in a Level III Trauma Center preferred.

Work Environment

This role requires rotating shifts and may include Day (7a-7p, 11a-11p) and Night (7p-7a) shifts, with floating responsibilities to various medical/surgical units as required. The nurse-to-patient ratio will typically be 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity, and 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other areas.
