Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

Education

  • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes relevant patient education materials.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting learning.

Evaluation of Care

  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance in revising care plans as needed.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care evaluation.
  • Communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.

Implementation

  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as necessary.
  • Adheres to organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures during care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults with resources promptly regarding complex care issues and discharge planning.

Leadership

  • Develops professional growth goals with assistance.
  • Aims to achieve goals within identified time frames.
  • Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Utilizes effective communication systems.
  • Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to colleagues.
  • Maintains awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
  • Ensures a safe, clean, and secure environment for all.

Patient Assessment

  • Recognizes data from complex situations to prioritize patient care.
  • Addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into comprehensive insights for communication.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for patients and families.
  • Builds relationships with families to empower advocacy for patient and familial needs.

Planning

  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Employs diverse communication methods for conveying planning efforts.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic factors in patient care planning.
  • Prioritizes tasks effectively for patients with complex problems.

Research

  • Engages with professional journals to identify applicable studies and articles.
  • Brings ideas and inquiries to the staff for evaluation and applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of MedSurg/Tele experience is required.
  • Previous neuro experience is required.
  • Remote Tele experience is highly preferred.

Education

  • Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
  • Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Required: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC).
