Whole House Float Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The Whole House Float Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for providing patient care across various units, including ICU, PCU, and MS. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in all three specialties and have experience with patient care ratios of at least 1:5.

Scheduling Details

  • Contract Length/Shift Details: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Charting: EPIC experience is required
  • Floating: Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, which may require the traveler to float 2-3 times per shift.
  • Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or a total of 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block.
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday within a 13-week contract.
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted, subject to radius criteria.
  • Requests: All requests for time off, block scheduling, and special scheduling must be included with the submission.
  • Call Off Policy: The facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.

Required License & Certifications

  • ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications are required.
  • Pending licenses are accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license is required.

Required Clinical Skills

  • Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration.
  • Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support, including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac).
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips.
  • A background in ICU experience of at least 2 years from a large Level 1 or Level 2 facility is required.

Unit Details

  • ICU average ratio: 2:1
  • PCU average ratio: 5:1
  • MS average ratio: 6:1 (may flex to 7:1)
