Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Behavioral Health team. This role is focused on providing compassionate care to patients dealing with various mental health challenges in an inpatient setting.

Required Skills / Certifications / Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Experience with inpatient care in a locked unit
  • Knowledge of substance use and chemical dependency
  • Experience with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and other mental health diagnoses
  • Ability to administer medications, including antianxiety agents, antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and sedatives/analgesics
  • Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
  • Certification in MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with congenital/developmental disorders
  • Proficient in starting and maintaining IVs

Job Details

  • Target patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:7
  • Shift: Nights from 18:45 to 07:15
  • Schedule: Weekends only (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • 36-48 hours per week available
  • No on-call requirements

Patient Population

The role involves caring for adult and geriatric patients with various mental health diagnoses.

Unit Details

The Behavioral Health unit is divided across two floors, with team members rotating between them. The unit utilizes psych techs for vital sign checks and patient monitoring, focusing on milieu management. Support from a therapy team is available seven days a week for group sessions.

Special Equipment

Monitoring is conducted using ObservSmart, and staff are equipped with personal panic alarms for safety.

Unit Systems

The unit operates on the EPIC system for medication administration and documentation, alongside Pyxis for medication management. Communication utilizes an SBAR format.

Orientation and Uniform

  • Comprehensive 32-hour unit orientation required
  • Available classes during the first week of employment
  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs
