Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health

Job Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) specialized in Behavioral Health to join our dedicated team. This role involves providing high-quality care to adults and geriatrics with various mental health diagnoses in an inpatient setting. The position entails working on weekends with a focus on patient safety and mental health stabilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, develop care plans, and implement patient care interventions.
  • Monitor and document patient progress and behavior, ensuring safety and well-being.
  • Administer medications, including antianxiety medication, antidepressants, and antipsychotics.
  • Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psych techs and therapy staff, to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with seclusion protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in patient education and psychoeducation activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a behavioral health setting.
  • Experience with inpatient care of complex mental health disorders.
  • Familiarity with medication administration and monitoring protocols.
  • Certifications: MOAB certification required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and adapt to varying workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with congenital/developmental disorders and profound impulse control issues.
  • Proficiency in starting and maintaining IVs.

Work Schedule

  • Shift: Nights from 18:45 to 07:15.
  • Days of the week: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • 36-48 hours can be offered per week, with an option for 13-week contracts.
  • Float requirement to med-surg units when necessary.

Unit and Patient Details

This role is situated in a Behavioral Health unit divided between two floors, where staff work across multiple areas of acuity. Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with various diagnoses including, but not limited to:

  • Substance use/chemical dependency
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders

Orientation and Training

Unit orientation consists of 32 hours, with hospital orientation provided during the first week. Travelers must be available for daily training sessions.

Additional Information

Scrubs: Navy blue. Expect to collaborate with a range of professionals, including nurse managers and virtual clinical nursing support available 24/7. Special monitoring equipment and protocols are in place to enhance patient safety and ensure effective communication.
