Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Summary

An opportunity exists for experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) specializing in Medical-Surgical Telemetry. This position involves delivering high-quality patient care in a telemetry unit with a focus on various critical conditions and post-operative recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments and monitor vital signs, with particular attention to dysrhythmias and telemetry readings.
• Administer medications and manage IVs, including central line blood draws and peripheral line care.
• Provide pre and post-care for hemodialysis and assist with bowel management, including colostomy and ileostomy care.
• Utilize rapid response and code teams effectively in emergency situations.
• Engage in oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, and wound care.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams for comprehensive patient care and documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in Med/Surg or Telemetry settings.
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required.
• Charge experience is preferred.
• ACLS certification highly desirable.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and post-operative care is beneficial.

Shift Details

• Night shifts: 18:45 – 07:15
• 36 or 48-hour workweek options available.
• Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
• Self-scheduling with a maximum of 7 days’ request time off.

Operational Expectations

Registered Nurses may be expected to travel between multiple locations and should be prepared to participate in Storm and Hurricane Teams, as well as respond to emergencies or mass casualty incidents.

Patient Population

Typical patient diagnoses include diabetes, dementia, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and various post-surgical recovery cases.

Unit Systems

Medication administration and documentation will be conducted via Pyxis systems.

Unit Orientation

A comprehensive orientation of 24 hours will be provided to ensure readiness for the unit’s protocols and systems.

Dress Code

Scrubs must be navy blue or white.

Additional Information

All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to their start date for this specialty. Consistent commitment to patient care and teamwork is required in a fast-paced environment.
