Clinical Nurse

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care in a hospital setting, adhering to professional standards. This role is accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director and is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care through the nursing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Considers developmental levels of patients and other factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as necessary for revisions to the plan of care.
  • Engages in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care evaluations.
  • Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, encompassing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
  • Conducts bedside point of care testing as required by the patient care plan.
  • Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to the needs of patients and families.
  • Consults appropriate resources promptly for complex care issues and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals to foster professional growth with assistance.
  • Achieves established goals within the designated timeframe or renegotiates as needed.
  • Understands activities that promote collaboration within and between departments.
  • Participates in setting and achieving unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizes communication systems effectively.
  • Contributes to the promotion of cost-effective care.
  • Provides feedback to colleagues.
  • Stays informed of public policy and regulatory guidelines influencing the healthcare environment.

• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to establish priorities for care.
  • Addresses physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into a cohesive understanding before sharing with others.
  • Anticipates discharge needs for individual patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to empower them in advocating for needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to create or update care plans.
  • Incorporates available multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Utilizes comprehensive communication methods to convey planning details.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
• Research:
  • Reads relevant journals and articles applicable to practice.
  • Shares ideas and inquiries with the broader staff for evaluation of applicability.

Qualifications

• Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
• Required Education:
  • Nursing Diploma, or
  • ADN or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Required Certifications & Licensure:
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina
