Medical Assistant

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and support within the healthcare environment. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at facilitating patient flow, assisting healthcare providers, and ensuring effective communication within the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet, direct, and assist all individuals arriving at the department.
• Answer telephone calls and relay messages accurately in a timely manner.
• Act as a liaison between departments and advocate for patients by maintaining a positive customer service approach.
• Assist with the scheduling and registration of patients, ensuring accurate charge assessments for services rendered.
• Measure and record vital signs, reporting any abnormal findings to nursing or physician staff.
• Perform point-of-care procedures, including urine dip tests, blood sugar tests, pregnancy tests, and rapid strep throat cultures.
• Conduct EKGs as required.
• Facilitate patient flow under the supervision of the Practice Manager or healthcare providers.
• Prepare necessary equipment and supplies needed for procedures performed by nurses or physicians.
• Complete required documentation to comply with regulatory agency guidelines.
• Transport patients, equipment, supplies, pharmaceuticals, and specimens as necessary.
• Maintain stock and inventory of supplies in patient exam and treatment areas.
• Assist healthcare providers during procedures as directed.
• Organize and manage patient records, files, and information.
• Enter orders, data, and medication lists into appropriate systems, subject to review by nursing or medical staff.
• Obtain and record patient test results as needed.
• Prepare medical records for upcoming patient appointments.

Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records systems.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant is a plus.

Additional Information

This role may require occasional transportation between various locations within the region. Candidates should be prepared to support a collaborative team approach to patient care.
