Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Overview

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse (RN) with expertise in Medical Surgical and Neuro specialties. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience providing high-quality patient care, particularly for stroke patients and various neuro diagnoses including epilepsy and traumatic conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Medical Surgical – Neuro unit.
• Monitor patient conditions and interpret telemetry data, including dysrhythmias.
• Administer IV medications and manage patients’ medication regimens effectively.
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Participate in floating to other Medical Surgical/Telemetry areas as required.
• Uphold hospital policies regarding time off requests and shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a Medical Surgical setting.
• Experience with stroke patients and neuro-specific care is essential.
• Prior traveler experience: must have completed at least 2 successful contracts.
• Ability to work every other weekend and fulfil floating requirements as needed.

Required Skills and Certifications

• BCLS certification required.
• NIH certification required.
• NIHSS certification required.
• ACLS certification preferred but not mandatory.
• Successful completion of EKG testing prior to start date.

Job Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6.
• Contracts available for 13 to 26 weeks.
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts.
• Unit orientation period: 36 hours.
• Scrubs required: Navy.

Unit Information

• Daily census of approximately 42 patients.
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Utilizes PYXIS and EPIC systems for medication management and electronic health records.
• Frequent floating between various Medical Surgical/Telemetry areas may be required.
