Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Telemetry

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with a focus on Cardiac Telemetry to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a strong background in cardiac nursing, including telemetry monitoring, post-cardiac procedures, and management of various cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to individuals with cardiac conditions and related diagnoses.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and perform sheath removals.
• Administer medications including cardiac drips, and perform titration as necessary.
• Assist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic surgeries.
• Utilize appropriate equipment such as arterial lines, EKG monitoring, and chest tubes for patient care.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices during catastrophic events or disasters.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience on a cardiac floor required.
• Traveler experience is preferred unless the candidate has over 24 months of cardiac experience.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are mandatory.
• Proficient in managing cardiac telemetry, post-MI care, pre/post-cardiac catheterization, and airway management.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias effectively.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with arterial line management and wound care including wound vacs.
• Charge nurse experience is a plus.

Work Environment and Expectations

Ratios may vary depending on patient acuity, typically ranging from 1:4 for surgical stepdown units to 1:5-6 for lower acuity settings. Nurses will work NIGHTS, specifically 3 twelve-hour shifts per week. There is a weekend requirement of 4 shifts every 4 weeks, which is flexible to meet unit needs.

All staff members will be expected to participate in Storm and Hurricane Teams, including potential work during catastrophic events or mass casualties. Unit orientation will be provided for 24 hours.

Patient Population

Typical patient diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure (CHF), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), coronary artery disease (CAD), and various valve disorders among others.

Unit Details

Special procedures include CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, and several other cardiac and thoracic surgeries. Experience in these areas will be beneficial.

Equipment Utilized

• Arterial lines, Doppler, Bladder scanner, EKG monitors, chest tubes, and various cardiac monitoring devices.

Documentation and Communication Systems

• Experience with electronic health record systems such as EPIC and utilize communication tools like SBAR for effective patient handoffs.

Scrub Colors

Navy scrubs are required for this position.

Interview Process

All candidates will undergo an interview process, and EKG testing will be required prior to the start date for this specialty.
