ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This role is essential in providing intensive care to a diverse range of adult patients. The RN will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care and collaborating with other healthcare professionals within a fast-paced environment.

Unit Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU, functioning as a Level III Trauma Center. Our team cares for patients with complex diagnoses, including:

• Substance Abuse and Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleeding
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Attending physicians and residents are present in the ICU 24 hours a day to ensure optimal patient care.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients in the ICU.
• Monitor patient vital signs and administer medications as prescribed.
• Perform assessments and interpret telemetry strips proficiently.
• Ensure compliance with unit policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Float to Medical/Surgical Units as required, managing patients effectively.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in an adult ICU, with a preference for MICU.
• Active RN license in Massachusetts.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Experience in reading telemetry strips and utilizing EMR systems, specifically EPIC, is essential.

Work Schedule

This position requires working nights and alternating weekends, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week. Rotating shifts are applicable for day positions, though night shifts will remain fixed. The RN to patient ratio is typically 1:2 for high acuity patients, extending to 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Med/Surg areas.
