Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Shift Information

This position requires working night shifts, consisting of 4 twelve-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:00) per week, with no block schedules. Weekend coverage is needed every other weekend, with an expectation of 6-7 shifts per contract. The nurse will also float between Mother/Baby and NICU units as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care in a labor and delivery unit.
• Assist with various procedures including Cesarean sections, cerclage, and bilateral tubal ligation.
• Monitor and assess patients in antepartum and postpartum stages.
• Conduct fetal monitoring and manage abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
• Provide care for high-risk populations, including those with conditions such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.
• Perform neonatal assessments and manage care in the delivery room.
• Administer medications and therapies, including magnesium sulfate therapy.
• Triage obstetrical patients effectively.
• Support breastfeeding and baby-friendly protocols.
• Maintain and start IVs, and perform venipuncture as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and delivery.
• Current certifications are required, including BLS and NRP. ACLS and AWHONN Intermediate are preferred.
• Experience with high-risk antepartum care is preferred.
• Familiarity with Epic charting systems is required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage patient ratios of 1:1-2 during day and night shifts.

Patient Age Groups

This role involves caring for neonates and adults within a daily census of approximately 10 patients, across 12 available beds in a 14-room unit.

Special Equipment & Support

The unit is supported by interdisciplinary teams, including IV teams, respiratory services, and social services. Special equipment includes transfer devices and interoperability tools.

Orientation

A total of 36 orientation hours will be provided to acclimate to unit protocols and procedures.
