Registered Nurse (RN) – Stroke/Neuro PCU
Position Overview
This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The RN will provide nursing care for patients in a specialized telemetry setting with a focus on stroke and neurology patients, alongside general medicine overflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a telemetry PCU.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, including dysrhythmia management.
- Administer IV therapy, medications, and blood products as per established protocols.
- Utilize emergency response techniques and participate in rapid response and code teams.
- Apply isolation precautions and manage telemetry settings, ensuring patient safety and care quality.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and Pharmacy.
- Support patients requiring respiratory care, including non-invasive airway management.
- Float to other units as needed, maintaining skill sets and patient care standards.
Qualifications
- Must possess an active RN license from a non-compact state or an active compact RN license.
- 1 year of nursing experience required, preferably within a large facility (250+ beds).
- Neuro PCU experience is mandatory, with preference for candidates with travel experience.
- Certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS are required.
- Proficiency with Epic charting system is essential.
Work Schedule
- Night shifts comprising three 12-hour shifts (645 PM – 715 AM).
- Weekend shifts are required on a rotating basis with a total of six weekend shifts in a six-week scheduling block.
- Orientation will consist of 32 hours upon onboarding.
Patient Ratios
Typical patient care ratios for this unit are 1:5. The staffing goal is to maintain a 1:4 ratio when possible.
Unit Details
The Stroke/Neuro PCU specializes in managing patients recovering from strokes and neurological conditions while also addressing general medical needs. The unit supports a daily census of approximately 25 patients across 25 beds.
