Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality patient care while working in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Scheduling Details

• Shift: Night shift, 3×12-hour (18:45 – 07:15)
• Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Holidays: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Call-off Policy: Facility is permitted to call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Orientation: 48 hours

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Provide care to adult patients with neurological conditions, including neurosurgical recovery and stroke management.
• Manage a patient ratio of 1:4–5 and ensure high-quality care is delivered consistently.
• Oversee and monitor patients in 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring.
• Utilize interdisciplinary support, including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and rapid response teams.
• Administer medications and manage cardiac drips (no titration).

Qualifications

• 1 year of nursing experience preferred; charge experience is a plus.
• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Proficient in EPIC charting system required.

Clinical Skills Required

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration.
• Central and peripheral line care and management.
• Respiratory support, including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management.
• Maintain isolation precautions and adhere to PPE standards.

This position may require floating to other units within the clinical skillset and involves caring for patients across a variety of neurological diagnoses and conditions. A commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care is essential.
