Sterile Processing Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Sterile Processing Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience. This position involves working with a variety of surgical specialties and requires specific certifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in sterile processing; first-timers not accepted.
  • Certification required: CBSPD or IAHCSMM/HSPA.

No specific patient population is designated for this role.

Responsibilities

The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for the following:

  • Processing surgical instruments and trays for various specialties including Open Heart, PV, Robotics, Endoscopy, General Surgery, Orthopedics (total joints/trauma and Hand/Foot/Ankle), Plastics, Neuro, Oral Surgery, ENT, and Gyn.
  • Operating required equipment including Getinge Steam sterilizers, Sterrad plasma sterilizer, biological incubators, washer/decontaminators, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer air guns.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sterility in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Work Environment

  • The facility operates with a ratio of 17 operating rooms and manages an average surgical volume of 50 procedures per day, with a daily tray volume of approximately 450.
  • Unit systems in use include Epic (preferred) and Alex Gold-Integra (preferred).
  • Scrub colors will be provided by the facility.

Work Schedule

  • Maximum request time off (RTO) is 7 days.
  • Weekend shifts are not required.
  • Floating within the facility/scope of practice may be necessary as needed.
  • No call requirements.
  • If assigned during major holidays, the technician is expected to work as follows:
    • Work one holiday if only one major holiday occurs during the assignment.
    • Work two holidays if two major holidays occur during the assignment.
    • Work two out of three holidays if three major holidays occur during the assignment.

Compliance and Screening

Full compliance with requirements is necessary to ensure timely start. If not compliant, there will be a two-week delay due to the bi-weekly orientation schedule. Candidates will undergo a clinical screen to determine fit before proceeding to management for final decision.

Local candidates are accepted, with the same rate as travel candidates.
