Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Shift Information

Part-time position requiring 2 – 12 hour night shifts per week, from 1900 to 0730, including a weekend rotation.

Minimum Years of Experience

None required.

Certifications/Requirements

  • General Certifications: NRP, BLS/BCLS

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing quality nursing care to maternal and newborn patients. Collaborates with other professional staff to ensure services align with the caring philosophy of the organization. The OB RN will also cross-train and provide care for Med Surg/EICU patients as needed.

Essential Job Duties

  • Completes initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions, and develops individualized care plans for assigned patients.
  • Appropriately triages patient care based on presenting symptoms.
  • Administers medications accurately.
  • Assesses labor progression and manages induction of labor and cervical ripening.
  • Competently handles medical emergencies such as prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and others.
  • Performs and accurately interprets fetal heart monitoring.
  • Manages pregnancy-related concerns including hypertension and diabetes.
  • Assesses the condition of newborns and recognizes situations requiring heightened surveillance or advanced care.
  • Performs neonatal resuscitation within the scope of practice and certification.
  • Monitors newborns for adverse events such as hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice, and intervenes appropriately.
  • Promotes patient education and involvement in the care of newborns.
  • Identifies and notifies the provider about any changes in patient status promptly.
  • Communicates effectively with the patient care team.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Two-year degree in nursing required; four-year degree preferred.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Wisconsin Registered Nursing license.
  • AHA BLS certification within 1 month of hire.
  • NRP certification within 6 months of hire.
  • ALSO certification within 1 year of hire.
  • STABLE certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are required.
