Medical Technologist
The Medical Technologist is responsible for the collection, processing, and analysis of biological specimens in the laboratory. This position also involves the preparation of reagents and requires comprehensive knowledge of specimen collection methods, including venipuncture and the handling of hazardous or infectious materials for culture. The Medical Technologist may act as a backup to the phlebotomy team, performing venipuncture and/or culture collection as needed.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes and processes biological specimens: Organizes workload and sets up test procedures (60%).
- Evaluates patient and quality control results: Enters results into the laboratory information system, strictly adhering to critical notification policies (20%).
- Maintains inventory: Reorders reagents, stocks shelves, and disposes of biohazardous materials and chemicals safely according to departmental procedures (15%).
- Troubleshoots laboratory instruments: Maintains and resolves issues with laboratory equipment (5%).
Work Schedule
This position operates on a 7 on 7 off schedule, with four 10-hour shifts from 8 PM to 6:30 AM followed by three 12-hour shifts from 8 PM to 8:30 AM. A 36-hour guarantee is provided. The role requires working every other weekend.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is required.
- Proficiency in using Sunquest and Epic laboratory software is essential.
- Experience with Ortho Blood Bank and Chemistry, Siemens coagulation and urinalysis, and Sysmex hematology is necessary.
- Active ASCP certification is required.
