RN – Whole House Float ICU/PCU/MS

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care across ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical units. This position requires flexibility and adaptability, as the nurse will float among different specialties to meet staffing needs. The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in a range of clinical skills and possess prior experience in critical care environments.

Scheduling Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Details: 3×12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Charting System: Experience with EPIC required
• Floating: Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours; float 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekends in a 6-week scheduling block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Qualifications

• Current RN license: Either active Virginia State or Compact RN license
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required
• Pediatric and Adult experience preferred
• Comfortable working in all three specialties: ICU, PCU, and MS

Required Clinical Skills

• Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and management of PICC and central lines
• Skilled in tracheostomy management and non-invasive airway support, including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilator management
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and administration of emergency medications
• Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience from a large Level 1 or Level 2 facility

Unit Details

• ICU average patient ratio: 2:1
• PCU average patient ratio: 5:1
• Medical-Surgical average patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
