Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Position Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Med/Surg Telemetry. The role focuses on providing high-quality patient care in various clinical situations, including management of high-acuity patients with diverse diagnoses.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry data.
• Manage and treat dysrhythmias.
• Provide care for bowel obstructions, colostomy, and ileostomy management.
• Administer feeding tube care and management.
• Perform pre/post-hemodialysis management and care for renal failure.
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines.
• Provide wound care and manage wound vacs.
• Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed.
• Conduct phlebotomy and IV management, including starting and maintaining IVs.
• Administer oxygen and manage various airway devices.
• Practice isolation precautions and adhere to PPE protocols.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Med/Surg or Telemetry nursing.
• First-time travelers are welcome, and local candidates may apply.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Preferred certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Charge nurse experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in electronic documentation systems is advantageous.

Shift and Scheduling

• Night Shift: 18:45 – 07:15.
• 36 or 48-hour shifts are accepted.
• Contract lengths of 13 to 26 weeks are available.
• Regular weekend shifts, with requirements every other weekend.
• Maximum request for time off (RTO) is 7 days.
• Floating to different units may be required based on staffing needs.
• Staff may be assigned to emergency response teams and be required to report during catastrophic events.

Patient Diagnoses

The patient population includes those with conditions such as diabetes, dementia, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fractures, CHF, UTIs, renal failure, hypertension, and cellulitis.

Unit Systems

Familiarity with the Pyxis medication management system is required.

Orientation and Uniform

• Unit orientation is 24 hours upon starting the position.
• Scrubs should be navy blue or white.

Additional Information

Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty role.
