Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Job Overview

This role involves providing care to patients in a fast-paced medical surgical unit. The position requires the management of general medical and surgical patients who are in transition from the emergency room to their assigned units. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Level 1 trauma center.

Shift Details

• 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730)
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• No on-call duties

Unit Information

This unit consists of 15 private rooms where patients prepare for discharge from the emergency room. Responsibilities include initial patient admissions and ongoing care until patients are assigned to new units.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience
• Experience in a Level 1 trauma center or high bed Level 2 facility
• Proficiency with Epic software
• Current BLS certification (AHA)
• Able to thrive in a busy and fast-paced environment

Essential Duties

• Admit and assess patients transitioning from the ER
• Perform routine medical and surgical nursing tasks
• Utilize Epic for patient records and documentation
• Employ Zebra phones for communication and Omnicell for medication management
• Support patient care through the use of Aleris IV pumps and other equipment

Floating Requirements

The nurse may be required to float to other medical/surgical units as needed to ensure adequate patient care and staffing levels.

Dress Code

Navy blue scrubs are required for this position.

Training and Orientation

New hires will undergo orientation and training procedures specific to the medical/surgical unit, designed to equip them for the fast-paced environment.
