Job Title: Sterile Processing Supervisor
Job Summary:
A Sterile Processing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the sterile processing department (SPD) in healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with infection control practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. They manage a team of sterile processing technicians, ensuring the proper decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of medical equipment and instruments for use in patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the sterile processing team, including assigning tasks, scheduling, and providing training and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, AAMI, FDA), and healthcare policies related to sterilization and equipment processing.
- Develop, implement, and monitor sterilization procedures, ensuring that all medical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sanitized, and sterilized for safe patient use.
- Collaborate with clinical and surgical teams to ensure the timely delivery and availability of sterile equipment and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance documentation.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and tracking of sterile supplies and surgical instruments.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and calibration to ensure proper functioning.
- Identify and resolve issues related to instrument shortages, quality control, and workflow inefficiencies.
- Train staff on the use of sterilization equipment, infection control practices, and new technologies and procedures.
- Participate in infection prevention programs and ensure compliance with hospital policies and standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or certification in Sterile Processing Technology preferred.
- Certification:
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred.
